From Haters to Handles: How I Named My Company & Branded Myself
Thinking about starting a business or starting a blog, but wondering how to choose a name for your business? Whether your personal branding or business branding, you need to start creating a brand identity, aka branding your business (or yourself)! And choosing a business name can be difficult, but business naming doesn’t have to be, especially if you follow these branding tips I’m sharing, along with the story of my entrepreneurial journey and how I named my company and branded myself as Blogging Brandi!
This is how I went through the naming process and decided on a business name I could grow with. Plus, how I took lemons and turned them into lemonade to choose a business name! So if you’re asking Google “what to name my company,” this is a little inspiration for how to name your business!

How I Named My Company: Blogging Brandi + Lessons Learned Along The Way…
I wanted to tell you how Blogging Brandi came to be — how I branded myself and named my company!
QUESTION:
I get this topic or question a lot with people: they’re worried about how to start, what other people think about them, and what others might say.
You’re going to have haters no matter what level you are.
You can have a 100 people or 1,000 or 1 MILLION people following you, and you just need to remember that many more people are also going to unfollow you and unsubscribe from you, the bigger that you get.
It’s just part of the business. People’s likes change, people accidentally sign up, sometimes people do it on purpose, sometimes it’s your competition, so don’t take it as a negative thing.
If somebody really has something negative to say about you, then that should just let you know that that’s something wrong with them anyway.
Everyone is Responsible for themselves, and you know, you can’t judge everyone else.
So, just keep that in mind, and don’t let other people’s comments deter you, because you know the truth, and you need to start just telling your truth.
When I Started My Blog…
When I started my blog, I started out talking about girls and girly topics. Which is why one of my blogs I named “Redirected Energy“ – it was more about love, relationships, healing, what I was going through on my journey at the time.
Then, one of my other businesses at the time was selling on Amazon and eBay. My business didn’t even have a name to begin with. I think I just sold under my own name back then until eventually it just kind of evolved… into the reselling business and blog I have now, which is called “Ambay Exchange“
The bittersweet part of how I branded myself and became “Blogging Brandi” is that I had just gone through a horrible personal tragedy in my life. I was trying to heal and thought I would use my writing skills to start a blog. Yet, when I told my boyfriend I wanted to start a blog, he laughed at me and said, “What are you going to be, Blogging Brandi?” — It was in that moment I thought, “That’s a great idea — YES I am!”
I looked up the SEO on it and figured out that it would actually work, plus that no one was using it — meaning that the name was available.
So after doing my research, I purchased the name and started using it on social media.
I knew all the handles were available, so I used all the same ones. This way, people can find me on all the platforms @BloggingBrandi via Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter X, Pinterest, and YouTube!
So my handle is the same, which is really important when you’re trying to brand your business, is that you’re uniform across the different platforms, in your colors, your branding, and your name so people know who you are!
Turning Lemons into Lemonade
Either way, I took a hater or someone who maybe just didn’t get it at the time.
I took those negative comments and their laughing at me, and I turned it into my name, which is where I am now. Don’t think that what people say about you can be a bad thing. I took those lemons and turned them into lemonade. Cause it ended up being an amazing SEO opportunity for me.
And the domain was available (www.BloggingBrandi.com)
Because I kept thinking “What am I gonna, you know, make my name”
I just thought that I would share that with you. It’s a pretty cool story about how my name came to be, which is Blogging Brandi.
What you need to remember…
If you have any haters, just remember, they probably had a bad day.
And remember, you never know what they’re going through. People always take stuff out on you because of what they’re going through, and also because they don’t know you. When people fear the unknown, they always have that guard up, so you can’t blame them.
I tell this story to people a lot, but I never kind of put it out there on video, but I figured it’d be worth sharing.
So don’t get your hopes up and don’t get your feelings hurt if somebody says something that you feel hurts your feelings, because sometimes people take things a certain way, and maybe they took something you said a certain way, and vice versa.
It’s just part of the game. And with the world becoming really text-friendly, people are quick to shoot things off, and they don’t realize what they sound like in a text.
Also, remember that people are behind a screen, so they’re totally about just saying whatever they want when they’re behind a screen. Do you think they’d come up to your face and say it? No, probably not.
People Will Try To Bring You Down
And a lot of times, people will hate on you, especially if you’re getting ready to start your business, because:
One, it can be out of love because they love you and they care about you, and it’s kind of like they don’t really know that they’re doing it in the wrong way.
And then the other way is because people are jealous, and they just don’t want you to start.
So you can’t let them deter you once you kind of get started. Just start, you’re gonna get your feet wet. Honestly, you’re gonna have to fail before you learn. So you’re gonna start, you’re gonna have steps, and you’re going to learn from those and just keep going.
My name came from somebody making fun of me, but it turned into a great opportunity for me, and it’s what’s become my business and my brand.
So turn those lemons into lemonade.
