Before I became a digital nomad, entrepreneur, and blogger, aka Blogging Brandi — starting my reselling business, AmBay Exchange, I was working in finance, and quit my 9-5 after learning how to get started reselling online.

Discovering the power I had to work from home — that I could make income online from second-hand selling my own stuff, Thrifting For Resale, Flipping For Profit, aka reselling online, or sometimes referred to as retail arbitrage. 💰

From thrift flips to full financial freedom (no pun intended), this is my first successful online business that started it all. Plus, it’s something fun to do as a way to make money online and generate passive income, which you can always fall back on.

Part 3 – Behind the Scenes: How It All Started 💡

Yay! This is a little behind the scenes of Blogging Brandi and AmBay Exchange, my thrift store.

Believe it or not, the very first business that took off for me was reselling — secondhand items, thrift flips, and things I already had around my house.

I started by going to auctions, thrift stores, and Goodwill.

My Goodwill Love Story 🛍️

Speaking of Goodwill… I love it so much that I even have reusable “I ❤️ Goodwill” bags! 😂

I stock up on them whenever I can. I think I got these in Las Vegas, though I don’t remember where the rest came from.

I’m super excited to finally share all of this — because it’s stuff I never shared before!

When I first started thrifting and flipping, I didn’t even have social media, a website, or an audience. Just an Amazon account and an eBay account. That’s how it all began.

From Corporate to Clutter to Cash 💼➡️💸

Back then, I had a 9–5 job at Merrill Lynch / Bank of America, making around $100,000 a year.

But I started selling things online, flipping items, and realizing: “I can actually make money doing this.”

Once I figured out how to sell — and saw the power of the internet — I told my boss, “Peace out, I’m leaving!” — aka I QUIT MY JOB!

It hasn’t always been easy. There have been struggles, lessons, and a lot of trial and error. But over time, I got better and smarter about what works.

Finding What Works (and What Sells) 📦

I started getting pallets delivered to my house, going to auctions, and sourcing inventory wherever I could.

Eventually, I learned what sold best for me:

• Baby items 👶
• Dog products 🐶
• Lilly Pulitzer pieces
• Vera Bradley, Coach, and other name brands
• Random gifts I never used or things I thrifted and flipped

You’ll see some of that in my shop — everything from little figurines to handbags to baby carriers.
