If you want to be CEO, start being Selfish all the time!

Here is why being selfish will help you achieve CEO status… Do you ever stop to think, listen, learn, and actually absorb any information? I know some people whose entire life is absorbed with sports, music, social media, their cell phone, or some other mindless activity.

Dealing with Nonstop Distractions and NOISE are NOT The Daily Habits Of Outrageously Successful People, yet There Are Always a Million Distractions every day, so here’s How to Silence the Noise, Pay Attention, and Still Succeed!

Do you take time to think?

I had a conversation with someone the other day whom I asked: “Do you not ever take time to think?”

They replied, “No, not really, maybe in the shower.” — the same person who also told me they want to get rid of their phone altogether or leave it behind when they go on trips. Yet, they walk around day in and day out, consumed by what is going on with their phone.

And brags about how several wealthy people they follow spend more time “thinking and absorbing information” — some don’t even have a phone, email, or other mainstream forms of communication. Meaning they are NOT just mindlessly going through the motions of life.

It’s Kinda funny to watch and listen to them.

Where is your head at?

I swear, if I have another conversation with the top of someone’s head, I am going to blow! The world has become obsessed with technology. I mean, is it just me, or do you not find it rude when you are at dinner trying to have a conversation over great food, only to always have your dinner dates on their phone? The same goes for lunch and breakfast, but you get my drift!

Even at my house, I can’t tell you how many discussions we get in about staring at your phone vs listening to what I’m saying — not asking me, huh, what did you say? Hold on a minute? etc…

I read somewhere that there were approximately:

  • 500 Million Tweets are sent each day (that is 6,000 tweets every second.
  • And 6 new profiles every second are created on Facebook, meaning they average 500,000 new users daily!
  • Plus, digital marketing experts estimate that most Americans are exposed to around 4k-10,000 advertisements EVERY DAY!

Do not quote me on these numbers, yet if I’m being honest, they are probably way higher now!

People always seem lost in the moment and forget all the chaos going on around them, drowned by all the “noise.” — I love waking up at 5am (sometimes even 4am or earlier) just to sit alone or even outside and listen, gather my thoughts in silence! It’s my time to reflect on yesterday and plan to do better today.

You don’t have to always be “Plugged in” with the rest of the world

Why do some people always feel the need to be “plugged” in? I remember growing up, I was the only kid who didn’t play sports. Instead, I watched every other child I knew always being drug around to some kind of after-school activity. It was like the only thing they were allowed to do was play sports.

I was the smart kid, never missed school, always made A’s, and excelled at everything academically, but when it came to school, I actually hated it! All the rules and people to boss you around, plus mingling with others, is NOT my jam. I’m an introvert and operate best ALONE, not in a group or with any other people.

Even my 9-5 job, I quit before becoming an entrepreneur and blogger — all the people I worked with were obsessed with technology, TV, Text, everything, and everyone else! Thankfully, social media wasn’t a big thing other than maybe Facebook (which I didn’t have at the time).

Everyone had smartphones to carry with them. We used to call the “Blackberry Phone” the “CrackBerry Phone” because in the corporate world people were ALWAYS on their BlackBerry Phones, Texting, Emailing, Surfing The Internet… I even had two phones!

Not only do you NOT need to always be “plugged in” you also do NOT always need to “be ON” as in working (sometimes it’s better to take breaks, recharge, and take it all in)

Operation: “Escape The Box”

My best friend in high school had a project she called “Getting out-of-the-box” or “Escaping the Box,” which was the small town we lived in.  I’m a country girl! We were miles from any type of major mall or city. So, we spent every weekend visiting a new mall for several months.

Her point was to show me a different lifestyle. She came from a wealthy family. But what it did for me was give me dreams of something bigger. Something different, and boy, did it ever change my views on life.

I’ve always felt there was something more. The next big thing, as if “where I am in my life is never good enough, I am never good enough for anyone — my life, relationships, career…”

But, recently, I started taking time to actually be present, slow down, and think before, during, and after I act, speak, or react. This is one BIG reason why I love RV Life! I even shared 10 Reasons Why I Love Solo Female RV Living ALONE as a digital nomad and entrepreneur.

Sometimes my thoughts have brought me to tears. I get upset at all the years of my life I have wasted by not slowing down to be present. Like the fact that I didn’t embrace the gift God gave me of “Blogging” vs “Vlogging” earlier in my career. Even though I always knew it was there. But on the flip side, those experiences have allowed me to live a life most will continue to only dream of.

Take a selfish second

I encourage you to stop, take a step back, and cancel your plans to be alone. Gary Vee refers to it as “Call Out Tuesday” or “Take Off Tuesday” — so you can just take time off to read a book, take a bath, start a journal, build a business, go on a vacation, and reminisce in your thoughts. BREAK FREE of the reality you’ve gotten so accustomed to! Do something different than what you’re used to!

Come to terms and deal with the emotions you have been brushing under the rug for so long. Take some time to organize all of those goals, thoughts, and crazy ideas you always have. Take a deep breath. Maybe take a trip  ALONE.

Once you realize that you can turn off the noise without the world ending, you’re liberated in a way that few people ever know. — Tim Ferriss (Author and Entrepreneur)

ASK YOURSELF:

  • Do you take time away from everyone and everything?
  • Do you take time to reflect on yourself and how you can improve?
  • What is it that helps keep you present during the day’s activities?

You never know, you may have your next BIG idea when you take a second to SEE the BIGGER picture! Want your relationships or job to get better? Take time out to reflect on where you can improve. Here’s How Taking Time Off Actually Helps Me Make More Money!
