How I Motivate Myself To Get Things Done (as a Digital Nomad & Entrepreneur)

How to Get Motivated + Get Things Done: Here’s how to stay focused and get things done, even when you have no motivation to do anything! It’s the simplest thing you can do right now when you don’t know what to do! It’s EXACTLY How I Motivate Myself To Get Things Done when I’m Struggling with Staying Motivated as a Digital Nomad!

I use this any time I’m feeling overwhelmed because being a nomadic entrepreneur, living a location-independent lifestyle while running a business working from home or while you roam can challenge your productivity. I made this motivational video about how I stay focused, motivated, and productive in getting things done even when I’m working on the road! So, if you’re Wondering how to get motivated to get things done? Don’t worry I’ve got a list of ways I get motivated to get things done as an entrepreneur and digital nomad:

  • Watch other people for inspiration, both good and bad.
  • Take a break and do nothing at times to reset.
  • Plan, prepare, and brainstorm your ideas.
  • Read and get spiritually connected.
  • Have a community, a coach, and a program to guide you.

How I motivate Myself to get things done (as an entrepreneur & digital nomad)

Here is the transcript from the video:

How to Get Motivated + Get Things Done

How do I get motivated? I do not feel like doing anything right now! Maybe some more coffee will help? How do I manage to get everything done? As a digital nomad and an entrepreneur, my life is always moving. I’m never in the same place, at least not for long. You can find me in the condo, an Airbnb, a hotel, usually in the RV.

Plus, I have five little fur babies with me, as well as my man. My life can feel a little crazy at times, but how do I still manage to get everything done? Sometimes, I feel a little depressed and stressed. Contemplating where do I start? At times, YES, I just feel unmotivated! I go through that phase, but I also want to tell you how I deal with it. I have a couple strategies I use to get motivated to get things done and a few tips I want to share with you.

Watching Other People

So, the first thing I wanted to tell you when I’m feeling stressed and a little unmotivated that I do is, honestly, I watch other people. Kind of how you might be watching me in this YouTube video, which if you like this content and you’re like me (BTW if we haven’t officially met, I’m Blogging Brandi) Be sure to hit the like button below, subscribe to my YouTube channel, and tap that little bell icon so you’re notified each and every time I publish a new video.

Finding Good Inspiration

But, I watch other people. That’s, the first thing when I want to get motivated to get things done is I watch other people and I want to say that’s good and bad good in the sense that I like to watch people that Motivate me that are doing the thing that I’m doing that make me think: “okay, That’s how I can be productive or that’s how I can get traffic to my website or more views on my youtube video Or that’s how I build a website or this is how I write a book or this is how I sell something online I look up and google stuff all the time.”

Probably how you found this blog post or my YouTube video was looking up how to get motivated to get things done or how do I motivate myself to get things done? How do I get motivated? Motivational videos, motivational topics, motivational tutorials, motivational advice, etc… There are a lot of things you probably would look up to be able to find me online. I look up and find other people and I watch them.

Considering Bad Inspiration

I also will say, that I watch people bad. And when I say bad, I don’t mean bad as in bad people, but I watch people that I want to be like, and I also watch people that maybe I don’t want to be like, or that my life could end up like. And let me say that in a way that maybe makes a little bit more sense and maybe doesn’t seem so harsh when I say it.

I watch people who may have lost all their arms and legs. And I watch people who have gone through tragic events. Not saying that I don’t want to be like that. I don’t think that anybody prays to be like that or wishes for something like that to happen. But, I always in my mind am thinking, “What if that could happen?” Then what?

Tomorrow Might Not Be The Same

Hopefully, that alone motivates you to be like, wow, I really need to do something in my life now because tomorrow might not be the same. But also, it motivates you to know that there’s somebody out there who wishes that they could have your life or have all their arms and legs! Yet, maybe you’re happy and breathing just sitting there complaining “Oh, wish I could get motivated! I’m just not motivated right now.”

Well, there’s somebody else who is motivated out there they just wish they had your body. If they only had your mind. They wish they had the thing that you have that you’re taking for granted right now. That’s why I say, I watch both good and bad people when I’m trying to get motivated. I might not just watch them, but I listen to them or read them. But I follow other people then they come up in my feed on social media and YouTube and I try to get inspired by them.

Quit Drinking Alcohol

Another thing that I really haven’t shared about how I get motivated to get things done is both me and my boyfriend haven’t had a drink in over six months. That’s something that we removed from our life was alcohol, which I’ll probably have to make a video about that.

We haven’t drank in a while and that really has helped us go to sleep early even though I always get up early. I get up at 5 am naturally. But, now I feel more refreshed. I’m actually on a really crazy schedule because of the dogs right now. We go to sleep at 7 or 8 o’clock at night. Then, I’m waking up around 3am but Hopefully, that’ll get back to normal soon. It’s gonna be really weird whenever we move time zones again because whether we are at the condo or we go in the RV, we’re in a different time zone. So that can be a little crazy to adjust to. Yet, How do I motivate myself to get things done living a constantly changing fast-paced location-independent lifestyle?

No Nothing & Take A Break

Another tactic I would say is motivating myself to get things done is by doing nothing. Taking a break. If I’m feeling unmotivated, and I don’t know what to do, or I’m feeling stuck or I don’t know where to start, and I made a video about How To Start ANYTHING!

But, I might do nothing. I might take a break. I actually wrote an article about this, about how taking a break makes me more money. YES, It makes me more money to take time off and not be constantly creating, communicating, taking phone calls, and responding to emails, etc…

Do you know how unproductive it is if you sit there responding to emails all day or every time an email comes in you go look at your inbox or every time someone busts in the door, goes by your office or calls your phone or sends a text. If you look at those Notifications all day long, you’re never going to get anything done!

20 Minutes To Regain Your Focus

There’s a study out there, I don’t know what the exact numbers are but did you know it takes approximately 20 minutes to get back on track and fully focus on the task at hand every time you are interrupted! Just like if I was making a video and the dogs started barking or sometimes I can hear the cat playing with something.

Those things take my focus off a little bit and I’m trying to get back on track thinking “okay what was I talking about, what was the thing that was going on, etc… ” because those little things start to distract me. Then it takes me longer to get things done!

Removing Distractions

Removing distractions is another way to get motivated! So not just taking a break, taking time off, but also getting away from all the things that are distracting you or the things that are going on that are making you unmotivated, stressing you out, or giving you anxiety!

Maybe the way to get motivated, taking a break from it could be like taking a bath. Almost every day if I’m at the condo I will go and I’ll take a bath. I’ll just run the hot water because in the RVs I don’t get to take a bath. I love to just sit in the bathtub! My boyfriend asked me, “Oh, you don’t like the bubbles?” Nope, I just like the bathtub and a hot bath to sit in! That’s what I do.

Planning, Preparing & Brainstorming (in advance)

Another tactic that I use to get motivated and get things done is planning, preparing and brainstorming all of those ideas that I have and that I want to do something with. Maybe you don’t know where to get started or what to do to get started, but Writing those ideas down will help! I know whenever I want to start creating YouTube videos, I sit down and I start making a list of videos and ideas that I want to create and I write those down.

Not only do I write them down, I put them in the notes on my phone and I’ll make a document on my computer. I also jot all my ideas down on post-it notes. And so I end up with a whole bunch of post-it notes with videos and other ideas on them. But that gives me ideas so I can visualize what’s going on instead of just having these ideas in my head! Staying planned, prepared, and brainstorming and I do this weekly sometimes daily, either at night or in the morning, I’ll take time to plan and prepare.

No Noise!

I don’t have the TV on when I work from home or even in the RV. Sometimes the TV’s on in the background (maybe in the morning to hear the news) but I don’t watch a lot of TV. And, I rarely have the radio on when I’m in the car. I like to just be in silence when I drive. Every once in a while I’ll turn the radio on but actually, I find when I have the radio on that I’m a worse driver because I’ll get into the music and feel the need to “drive to that tune” — I’m not really focused on the road!

I also feel like when I have constant noises and things going on I can’t really hear from God or hear the thoughts in my head to really plan, prepare, and get all those things done or even written down that I’m trying to focus on!

EarPlugs & Earphones

Another thing that I do to get things done is that I have earplugs or even headphones that I use to help reduce the noise. I’ll put my AirPods in my ears and then I also have a pair of loop quiet earplugs so I won’t have to hear people — they just kind of like lessen the noise. But, they have different levels and colors, and a cute little carrycase. I keep both of these with me in my purse or in my digital nomad essentials that I told you about in a prior video/blog post.

Digital Nomad Essentials

All my digital nomad essentials that I use i.e. all my pens, pencils, and gear fit in a bag so I am able to carry them with me and work from home or while I roam! So, If you’re trying to get into the same lifestyle as me become a digital nomad, or entrepreneur, maybe do your own thing yet you’re struggling to get motivated. Not sure where to begin? Well, first you must have all the “accessories” that you need to do it.

Digital Nomad Systems

Maybe you’re not motivated because you don’t have all these things set up! I’ve talked about my systems and the things that I use to get set up online! I have systems that help me stay organized. Getting organized and staying organized is also a good way to get motivated!

Personal Life vs Business

Also, when you’re planning and preparing is not just planning and preparing the things that you need to do, but also getting your budget and finances in order. Planning and preparing your personal life vs Business. So, personal life is one thing and Business life is one thing. But Those things do essentially mesh when you’re working from home or while you roam, especially when you’re an entrepreneur. Everything kind of ends up going together.

It’s not like you just go to this 9-5 job and then you clock out at 5 and then you leave and you come home and it’s not like that. That’s not how it is. When you quit your job and leave the system, it’s a whole new world out there. I get motivated to get things done by having all the essentials, and my own system in place!

Research & Reading

Another tactic for getting motivated is reading. I love to read, reading articles online is one way. If I’m trying to learn about: how to get more traffic on my blog? Then maybe I’m reading articles about blogging. Maybe I’m looking up ways to make money online trying to figure out not necessarily for me, but I’m looking up to see what are other people looking up or what are they sharing. What kind of questions are they asking? What kind of videos are people making? What kind of things are ranking? I like to look and do research. So, that’s part of my strategy for getting motivated because reading is research. Reading Online Blogs and Articles do that for me.

I also like to read this little motivational book that I have called “Jesus Calling” I keep one at the RV, and one at the condo In the bathrooms. I also have another little spiritual flip book. Plus, of course, my NIV Bible. It’s a life application Bible and so not only do you just read it, but it also has little notes and transcriptions at the bottom of each page to tell you what you read and how to apply it to your everyday life.

So I have a daily motivation that I read or do that reminds me what I should be doing. Kind of like reading these blog posts or watching my YouTube videos. It’s a daily motivation or a weekly motivation, however often you view them. It’s a reminder of: “oh, I need to be doing that thing, or that’s an idea I could be working on, or that’s getting me motivated to get things done right now. Reading articles, and getting spiritually motivated, all help me to get things done.

Coaching Calls, Courses & Community

That brings me to my last tactic of how I get motivated to get things done which is by having calls with people, having coaches, a community, and a program. Things that you do and people that you look up to to stay motivated. Maybe it is reading this blog post or watching a YouTube video. Maybe it’s joining my email list and becoming part of my community. Maybe it’s joining one of my Facebook groups.

How I Got Started

I remember when I was getting started on my entrepreneurial journey and I actually wanted to write a book. I’m thinking back about this because I wrote this book and I wanted to write a book. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to write a book about necessarily at the time. I ended up writing it. It’s called Brand Like a Boss and it looks a little bit different online now, but…

Booking A Phone Call

I had a phone call that I scheduled because I was trying to get motivated to get things done. There’s this girl that I followed. I knew that she had written a book and I followed her somewhere else or saw her interviewed somewhere so I booked a call with her. I think it cost $500 for me to talk to her for about 90 minutes of her time. Then when we got done with our call she sent me some notes about our phone call. It gave me a lot of really good ideas to be on the phone with her asking her questions about her own journey.

Crazy story: talking about getting motivated. I remember I was so tired that I fell asleep when our phone call was scheduled. And I think I was about 15 or 20 minutes late for the Zoom phone call that I already paid $500 for! Plus To me, it was this “famous chick” — I had been waiting to get on the phone with her. Thankfully, finally, I got on the phone with her. I think I sent her an email and I was like, oh my gosh, I’m so sorry, etc… But either way, I ended up getting on the phone, and talking to her. She gave me a lot of really good advice.

But, the only reason I ever got on a phone call with her is because she had written a book and I wanted to write a book. I wrote this book. I don’t want to say things are not perfect. I want to say things have changed. And so, when you talk about getting motivated to get things done, I put a date on the calendar and I said, I’m gonna write this book!

Publishing My Own Book

At the time you could only do it about 90 days in advance for pre-sale on Amazon. I was writing on Amazon’s Kindle KDP so if you ever want to talk about how can I self-publish my own book did it for free on Amazon’s Kindle KDP, Kindle Direct Publishing. All I did was upload a document that I made in my Google Workspace Drive into Amazon and they turned it into a book. They do all that hard stuff for you. You don’t have to do anything except write it!

I created all my designs in Canva which is actually free to get started and you can pay for their pro version. I created my book almost out of necessity, desire, and motivation to get something done! I wanted to be able to say “I have this product for sale, this thing for sale, this thing out there” — because I felt as if I needed to do something at the time!

What’s funny is I created this book But then I never sold it. I never pushed it for people to go buy and you can actually go buy this book on Amazon. It’s not perfect and I’m gonna tell you why it’s because I’ve started to rebrand myself over the last year And so literally throughout the book, I say “hey, my name’s Bloggin, B L O G G I N, Brandi But I don’t have the G on the end! Yet, if you follow my story Then you know that I changed my name or updated my name and I’ve learned so many things after I started this whole Entrepreneurial journey that the game has taught me being an entrepreneur.

However, How I got motivated was by finding a coach, a community, and someone to guide me, a program and taking online courses helped as well.

Networking Events

Also, I’ve kind of mentioned this before but I went to something called Social Media Marketing World one year and I met all these Famous people. I chased them down and got all these exclusive interviews (I’ve never even shared them publicly) but I have all these extremely famous people that I met and gave me all this advice about what I should do with my business! I guess I took it but I never posted that part of my journey online. It’s kind of I guess what I’ve been doing and what I’m trying to catch up from, should I say.

Do One Thing TODAY!

When you talk about getting motivated, take one step, and do one thing. So if you’re thinking well, how do I start? I made a video about this, but do one thing. One thing. If you’re like, okay, how do I start designing my logo? Well, sign up for a Canva account. You can start creating it for free. Start just playing around.

Maybe you go look on Pinterest at logos. Maybe you’re contemplating if I should start a business? Why don’t you go look at what other people are doing? Why don’t you watch other YouTubers? Look at some other videos that I’ve made about starting a business. Look at what other people have done, what they haven’t done, and try to learn from them. You’re not going to know if you don’t actually put yourself out there and try to learn and grow and test. and fail. Review what you did, learn, grow and repeat. Test, fail, learn, grow, repeat.

Taking The Next Step

This brings me to the fact that I have a lot of people in the room with me right now. A lot of furry paws in here aka A community. You want to have a community around you to help support you on your journey. That’s what I like to say is something that I’ve created not only just for like my RV peeps over at RVersity, but also for people that are like I just don’t know what to do. I have my fan club. I have my Facebook groups. I have my email list. I have groups that you can join. And I’ve started to figure those things out over time.

Some people are in that stage of: I don’t know where to start. I don’t know how to get motivated or I have this idea yet I don’t know where to take it next. And so that’s why I mentioned that booking a call with me could help. Maybe you just need someone to talk to and bounce your ideas off of.

Whether that be A community, a coach, or a program. Maybe it’s an online course that you take. I’ve created tons of online courses that are out there for people to take. I personally like to create blogs and videos. Not just write a book or create an online course. Because I feel like having these little bite-sized blogs help you a little bit more. But what happens is I’ll take a bunch of these blogs, or videos and a bunch of my content then put it into a course or website etc…

5 Tips For Staying Motivated To Get Things Done (working from home or while you roam)

Hopefully, these tips have helped you feel a little bit more motivated if you’re not feeling motivated already.

To recap, my tactics for staying motivated & getting things done as an entrepreneur and digital nomad working from home or while you roam include:

  1. Watching Other People: Learn from those who inspire you.
  2. Taking a Break: Sometimes doing nothing is the best way to recharge.
  3. Planning and Preparing: Write down your ideas and stay organized.
  4. Reading and Research: Keep yourself informed and spiritually motivated.
  5. Having a “Support System”: Connect with others who support and guide you.

TIP #1 – Watch Other People (Good & Bad): The first thing was to make sure that you watch other people, kind of like you’re watching me. And if you like this video, be sure to hit the like button below. Subscribe to my YouTube Channel and tap that little bell icon so you’re notified each and every time I publish another video. And remember that I watch people both good and bad.

TIP #2 – Take A Break: Also, do nothing. Maybe take a break. Do nothing at all. That’ll help you get motivated. You know, just taking some time off.

TIP #3 – Plan, Prepare, Brainstorm: The third thing is planning, preparing, and Brainstorming. Just getting those ideas out of your head, on paper, on a digital pad, etc…

TIP #4 – Reading, Watching, Listening: The Fourth tactic for getting motivated to get things done is reading articles and getting spiritually connected to your creator, your God, the person that put you here, your life purpose of what you’re supposed to be doing here, which I actually made a video about how to find your passion and purpose and what to do when you’re not feeling those things.

TIP #5 – Having A Support System: And, the last tactic that I talked about was having a coach, a program, a community, something that you follow to be able to get motivated and get things done. How are you just going to sit there by yourself all the time and get things done if you don’t have someone else to make you feel like oh, yeah, that’s what I did or that’s what I should do or that’s the next step to take or whoa I wouldn’t take that step next. Maybe you should do this thing first, or don’t spend money on that thing. Invest in this thing over here instead.

That all Comes with experience. It comes from communicating with other people who are in the shoes that you want to be in, who are doing the thing that you want to do or have done the thing that you want to do. And so that’s why I say that you could book a call with me. You can join my community. You can get on my email list!
