How I Rebuilt My Business After Listening to the Wrong People…
I wanted to give you a little bit of life advice about things people ask me, and things that seem to come up in my business, my RV life, and behind the scenes. In this post, I really want to talk to you about how what works for someone else might not work for you. That goes for business, RV life, relationship advice—anything you can think about in your life.
Someone told me this, and it actually made me think about why I wanted to make this—about these little life lessons series—and why what works for someone else might not work for you.
Sales Calls and Course Selling: What Works and What Doesn’t
For a while, I’d been pushing like this course, course, course, course—“You’ve got to sell this course, you’ve got to book a call with me.” I was supposed to give away all these free sales calls, spend 45 minutes on the phone with every person, and build these relationships—which I’m all about, building and nurturing relationships.
But wouldn’t it have been easier and better just to not get them on the phone to sell the course? Couldn’t I just tell them the price, give them a page of information and commonly asked questions, and if they wanted to book a call with me, that would be like an upgrade? Or it could be part of the course itself—which it has been for a while.
I took these sales calls to sell people on my high-ticket program, which is fine. I get why people say don’t put prices on your landing page or website—because:
If the price is over $500 or $1,000, most people won’t buy with just the click of a button.
If it’s under $1,000, people are often willing to buy right away.
But once it goes over $1,000, little radar signals go off in people’s heads, and they get cautious. They start looking for validation or reasons to justify the purchase.
Under $1,000, people might be okay with risking the money or putting it on a credit card. But $3,000 or more? That’s a bigger decision. If someone invests with me, and they get coaching calls, course content, community, and upgrades—that’s definitely a higher ticket item.
Protecting Your Content, Reputation, and Clients
Also, you want to vet who comes through your course. Partly, you don’t want people stealing your content. And you want to make sure it’s right for them—you don’t want someone to invest and then say, “That didn’t work for me,” just because it wasn’t the right fit.
So some of it is about protection—of your content, your reputation, and for them. That’s why I say what works for someone else might not work for you.
Letting Go of Offense and Following Your Own Path
This made me a little angry—and I’m trying hard not to be angry. My boyfriend actually sent me something from Joel Osteen that really resonated:
They’ll say things, they’ll do things that are hurtful. You can’t stop the offense from coming, but you can keep it from getting down in you. How much time are you spending offended, bitter, holding a grudge? How much more could you accomplish if you started letting things go? How much better would your relationships be if you got emotionally healthy, let go of what people said, forgave the person who did you wrong, and quit reliving the hurts?
I was surprised he was watching that—it was kind of funny. He sent it to me because I was upset over someone telling me, “You have to sell this course, it’s a high-ticket item, you have to do these sales calls.”
Part of it is that I love this person for who they are, but what I learned is that this person wasn’t doing what I wanted to do. So what was working for them doesn’t work for me—100%.
Trusting Your Own Gut and Rebuilding Your Brand
Maybe I should take little bits and pieces from this person—they taught me how to sell myself. But the sales calls, high-ticket item pressure? That didn’t work for me.
Why can’t I just put my prices on a website and let people buy? They’ve watched hundreds of my videos already. If they want to invest, they know what I’m about. Why didn’t I trust my gut before?
One of my clients and dear friends now says, “Brandi, you’re bigger than RV life.” And she said the person I was following was starting to piss her off. So I’m not going to follow all of their advice anymore.
I also noticed this person doesn’t really travel or RV—they’re more of a homebody, and travel disrupts their business. Whereas I’m a digital nomad. I travel, and I want to make money and travel as my lifestyle.
Living Your Own Lifestyle, Not Someone Else’s
My life isn’t a vacation—it’s a lifestyle where I make money and travel. Sometimes that’s RV living, sometimes it’s a condo, Airbnb, or hotel. That’s just me.
That’s why I say what works for me may not work for you—even if you take one of my programs or coaching calls. What I share will give you ideas, clarity, and things to think about, but it’s not a perfect fit for everyone.
Charging for Calls and Knowing Your Worth
Instead of free sales calls, I’ve started charging for calls. You can ask me anything about RV life, business, and behind the scenes of Brandi—but you’ve got to pay for that.
That pricing comes with my experience and understanding the value of my time.
The person who told me to do free sales calls wasn’t taking free calls themselves—they had others taking the calls for them while they ran the show.
Rebuilding After Following the Wrong Advice
Following that advice broke my brand and my business. I had to rebuild everything—from products to services. I made a video about why you should stop telling people your dreams because they’ll take them and squash them.
That’s exactly what happened to me.
Finding Your Own Way
I saw two kinds of people online: one with boring content, but valuable; another with fun and bubbly content that was more like me.
I wish I had shared more about my travels and RV life sooner because that’s part of my story.
RV life didn’t start as my money-maker—it was a hobby alongside my business. My story actually started with starting a business, then RVing came later.
Take What Works, Leave the Rest
So again, what works for me might not work for you. Take bits and pieces of what others do—don’t take everything, not even from me. Your life, your business, your lifestyle—they’re not cookie-cutter.
I keep lists and ideas for what works for me. I have shared posts about my digital nomad systems and essentials that help me stay organized on the road.

Watch other people, follow their blogs, watch my videos—get ideas and clarity. But your lifestyle and situation may be very different.
